05 Dec The Day I Got THE CALL
So I know every author has that story about when they got THE CALL. Which is usually when an agent calls to offer to represent them, right? Or when their agent calls with an offer from a publisher, right??
But you know, I got a really exciting call once too, and I’m calling it THE CALL. I remember exactly where I was.
The memory of THE CALL is still a source of strength to me. I remember I was piled in the car – I forget what kind it was – and I drove and drove. I’m not sure where I went, but I think there were trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as I played whatever sport I played. I remember a bigger, older guy I called “Dad.” I ate some stuff, or not, and then I think I hung up the phone. I guess some things never leave you.
I love Jack Handey!!! Thanks for letting me change it up a bit, Jack.
Anyway, I really do remember exactly where I was when I got THE CALL. I was at the playground on 96th and Lex. Random. But my point is that it was extremely noisy.
So I get THE CALL from one of my authors. Let’s call him Travis.
Travis: Hey, Michelle!
Me: Hey, Travis! What’s up?
More general what’s up chit chat ensued.
Travis: A friend of mine introduced me to this woman who’s starting a new company and she wants me to be involved. I think it sounds pretty cool but I wanted to get your take on it.
Travis proceeds to explain the idea, blah bitty blah blah
Michelle goes BERSERK with excitement!!!!! Pretend there’s a person going berserk here. If I were more special effects handy, I would insert one. You will have to use your imagination.
Travis: Really? You think it sounds that good??
Michelle: YES!!! I don’t even understand half of what you said but I think it sounds INCREDIBLE!!!!! WHEEEEE!!!!! (That was me on the tire swing with my 6yo (then 5yo, because I like to be accurate) while I was trying to understand the mechanics of the operation) I definitely think you should do this. DO IT!!! DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!!!!
Travis: Awesome! Love the tire swing! Ok, I’ll put you in touch with Lisa.
Now you may not believe it, but that is pretty much exactly how it happened, tire swing and all.
And here we are, on the eve of the berserkery. All that’s happened since that moment has only gotten me even more berserk with excitement. In fact, it got me to start a freaking blog so I could share my crazy berserk excitement.
Have you ever noticed that berserk is one of those words that the more you say it, the weirder it sounds? Berserk berserk berserk berserk berserk. I think all the more so because of that weird r in there. Like it should really be spelled Buzzerk.
Anyway, I have been dying to start talking about this awesome event. I have so much to tell you it just can’t be done in a single post. So check back tomorrow.
And then check back EVERY DAY THIS WEEK (that’s right, holy crap I’m committing to blogging every single day this week—yikes!!) for the behind the scenes details described in loony tunes fashion as only I can give them to you.
Are you berserk with excitement too??

Posted at 13:46h, 05 DecemberThe way you feel about the word berserk, I feel about “from.” Which is unfortunate, because I use that word pretty frequently.
Also: this was an excellent tease post. Tease.
